Luke
McDonald
One
Thursday morning in August 20o7, I walked into a newsagents to but a copy of my
local newspaper. There on the front page was a picture of a wee boy who reminded
me so much of Chevie, that I was captivated. Like Chevie, this wee lad had no
hair but a smile that melted me.
As
I read the story of Luke’s battle against the cancer that was ravaging his
tiny body, I knew the Siobhanathon Crew just had to do something to keep that
smile upon his face.
Luke
was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma
cancer in the early months of 2007. This is the same cancer that Leah has just
suffered, so the connection was very significant to our cause.
Luke
is only 4 years old, so at the moment he is quite confused as to why he feels so
poorly sometimes. But as with Leah and Chevie before him, he battles on with
more courage than most adults could muster. His smile can melt even the hardest
of hearts, he is a real gem of a lad.
It
is the wish of the Siobhanathon Crew, to raise funds from the 2008 Siobhanathon
Rally, to get Luke and his family to Disneyland, Florida.
This is the ultimate mission of Gary and I, to give Luke and his family
the holiday that sadly Chevie was unable to have.
We
know that Chevie would want this for Luke also, and that makes all the hard
work, and generous donations so worthwhile.
